“I’m Full”
Catch those tears man!
Man I thought I respected AD as much as a person could, but I somehow respect him a little bit more after our conversation.
The guy has done it all: Three Defensive Player of the Year awards, 111 sacks (the most for a defensive tackle after his first 10 seasons in NFL history), and of course a Superbowl ring (the only category I’m beating him in, and yes I remind him every day).
It’s easy to chase rings in this league. It’s easy to fall into the trap of prioritizing the game of football over everything else. But I love that Aaron just kept it so real: He’s accomplished everything he wanted to and is ready to move on. He’s full. And I respect the hell out of that.
Life after football
You can take football away from AD but you can’t take away his drive. He’s been staying busy with his various ventures, from his stake in Ready Nutrition to the amazing work he’s doing for underserved youth through his foundation AD99.
He mentioned in our chat that he was a bit unsure of how he was going to feel when the upcoming season started. This is just me, but I think he’s going to miss the game less than he thinks. I’ve found people only miss it when they feel like they have unfinished business with the game. If he’s “full” like he says he is, he’s going to enjoy watching it on Sundays like the rest of us with his family.
Plus, he’s going to be busy being a movie superstar…😉You’ll have to watch the full episode to see what I mean.
