Attention is the Name of the Game

It was a pleasure to sit down with Hot 97 DJ, Apple Music host, and self-admitted bandwagon Knicks fan, Ebro Darden.

We covered a bunch of good shit in our conversation, from the mismanagement of the Knicks and how the Lakers should move forward, to Ebro’s customer first mindset when it comes to his radio and Apple Music shows, to his racial equity work with the REJI initiative.

You should watch the full episode but here are a few more highlights:

  • It was dope to hear Ebro’s approach to marketing. In short, we can’t just focus on the “60 second” population, as in the young generation with short attention spans. We can’t change the game of basketball or football like that. But we can focus on the “60 minute” population and ask what we can do to engage them better.

  • We discussed how we could change the story to bring more excitement to the NBA All-Star Weekend, specifically the dunk contest. We might just take Ebro’s idea and run with it: Have NBA guys sponsor and train joes off the street with a good story and a nasty dunk package. Hit reply and let us know if you would watch this.

  • When asked why we even started this podcast, the answer was simple: to control our own narrative. We were tired of getting our words twisted by the media and watching analysts that have never played the game talking out their ass like fools.
